Pond Design

Filtration

Turtles produce far more waste than fish. External filter rated 3-5x water volume is recommended. Weekly partial water changes remain essential.

Safety

Escape prevention with 30cm+ vertical walls, predator protection netting against herons, cats, and raccoons, and avoid toxic plants near the pond.

Winter Preparation

Turtles enter dormancy below 10C. Insulate the deep section against freezing. Consider a floating heater to prevent complete freeze-over.
