Short-tail Ryukin

The Short-tail Ryukin retains the distinctive high shoulder hump and deep, rounded body of the standard Ryukin while featuring significantly shorter tail fins, creating a compact, chubby silhouette that many enthusiasts find particularly endearing. The combination of an exaggerated round body and abbreviated tail makes this variety an even slower swimmer than the regular Ryukin, so gentle filtration with minimal water current is essential. Body depth and roundness are key criteria for show quality. Like all Ryukin types, Short-tail Ryukin are prone to swim bladder disorders due to their compressed body shape, making it important to feed small amounts of easily digestible food and include occasional fasting days. They are best kept with other slow-swimming varieties in tanks of 45 liters or more.
