The pink cockatoo, also known as Major Mitchell's cockatoo or Leadbeater's cockatoo, is a medium-sized cockatoo that inhabits arid and semi-arid inland areas across Australia, with the exception of the north east. Named after Major Sir Thomas Mitchell, it is distinguished by its spectacular salmon-pink and white plumage and its dramatic multicoloured crest, which is banded in red, yellow and white. It is considered one of the most beautiful of all cockatoos.
