Limnophila Hippuridoides

Limnophila hippuridoides is a stem plant in the family Plantaginaceae (formerly Scrophulariaceae), native to Southeast Asia. The submerged leaves are delicate, pinnately arranged in whorls, and in high-light conditions with CO2 addition, the leaves develop beautiful purple to pink coloration. When used as a background plant, its unique coloration—distinct from both red and green plants—adds depth to aquascape compositions. Growth rate is moderate to fast, and dense bushes can be created through regular trimming and replanting. Beautiful coloration is maintained when CO2, sufficient light, and nutrients are all provided; insufficient light or CO2 tends to cause greenish leaves and slender growth. Regular addition of iron- and trace-element-containing liquid fertilizer helps stabilize color expression. Optimal water temperature is 22–28°C.
