Jelly Bean Plant

Sedum rubrotinctum (Jelly Bean Plant) is a succulent native to Mexico with plump, round, glossy green leaves that closely resemble jelly beans. As temperatures drop in autumn and winter, or under intense sunlight, the leaves gradually color from green to vivid red and orange from the tips, creating a striking two-tone effect. Plants grow to 10–20 cm tall, with stems becoming lax and sprawling over time. The species is one of the most forgiving and easy-to-grow succulents available, tolerating neglect and dry conditions with ease. Leaf propagation is virtually automatic—dropped leaves root and produce new plantlets without intervention. Full sun promotes the most vivid coloration. Watering should be minimal, with the soil completely dried between sessions. Cold tolerance extends to approximately −5°C. Long established as one of the definitive beginner succulents.
