Peruvian Apple Cactus

Cereus repandus (Peruvian Apple Cactus) is a large columnar cactus native to dry lowlands and rocky habitats in South America, including Brazil, Argentina, Uruguay, and Paraguay. It is one of the most widely cultivated columnar cacti, prized for its blue-green to grey-green ribbed stems and stately upright form. In its natural range, plants can exceed 10 m in height; container specimens typically reach 50–200 cm over decades. White, night-blooming flowers are followed by edible red fruits known as Peruvian apples. Plants thrive in full sun and are tolerant of indoor conditions when placed near a bright window. Watering once or twice monthly and very fast-draining soil are essential to prevent root rot. Cold tolerance extends to approximately 5°C. Propagation is by stem cuttings or seed, and the plant is popular as an architectural houseplant.
