Lace Aloe

Gonialoe aristata (Lace Aloe, formerly Aloe aristata) is a small stemless succulent native to Lesotho and eastern South Africa. The dark green leaves are marked with regular rows of white tubercles along the margins and surfaces, creating an intricate lace-like pattern. Despite a superficial resemblance to Haworthia, it belongs to the family Asphodelaceae and is a true Aloe relative. Mature rosettes are compact, 10–15 cm across, and produce offsets prolifically. The species is highly shade-tolerant and thrives in bright indirect light, making it one of the most accommodating succulents for indoor cultivation. Watering should be moderate and conservative; direct summer sun may cause leaf scorch. Cold tolerance extends to approximately 0°C. Orange tubular flowers are produced on tall stems in summer to autumn. Ease of culture and propagation by division make it an excellent introductory succulent.
