Coronet Guinea Pig

The Coronet guinea pig is a long-haired breed developed in England during the 1970s–80s through crosses between the Crested and Silkie guinea pig breeds. Adults measure 20–30 cm and weigh 800–1,200 g. Their defining feature is a single forward-facing rosette (the 'coronet') on the crown of the head, from which the long coat flows smoothly backward over the body—resembling a flowing mane. Unlike the curly-coated Texel, the Coronet's coat grows straight or with a gentle wave and can reach 5–10 cm or more in length across the body. Their temperament is gentle and sociable. Daily brushing is essential to prevent the long coat from matting, and regular trimming is strongly recommended. Diet consists of unlimited timothy hay and daily vitamin C supplementation. Common health concerns include scurvy, hairball-related digestive issues, and dermatitis. Lifespan is 4–7 years.
