Relatively new variety with ranchu body and calico pattern. Named for its cherry blossom-like soft coloring.
The Sakura Nishiki is a relatively modern Japanese goldfish variety combining the dorsal-finless body of the Ranchu with a soft calico (nacreous tricolor) pattern reminiscent of cherry blossoms in bloom, which inspired its name. Like the Ranchu, it has a compact, egg-shaped body and short fins, and is traditionally appreciated from above, where its balanced silhouette and delicate coloration are most striking. The translucent nacreous scales give the Sakura Nishiki a depth of color that shifts subtly with the angle of light. It shares the Ranchu's gentle temperament and is best kept in low-flow environments in tanks of 60 liters or more. As with other round-bodied varieties, swim bladder issues (including swim bladder disorder) are a concern, so feeding should be moderate and easily digestible food preferred.
