Beautiful sable coat with round golden eyes. Extremely people-loving; called 'dog-like cat.'
The Burmese cat originated in Burma (now Myanmar), with all modern Burmese cats descended from a single female cat named Wong Mau, brought to the United States in 1930 by Dr. Joseph Thompson. The breed is compact and medium-sized with a surprisingly heavy, muscular body for its size, often described as "a brick wrapped in silk." The traditional coat color is sable (rich dark brown), though several other colors have since been developed. Burmese cats are renowned for their extraordinarily affectionate, dog-like temperament, following their owners closely and disliking extended solitude.
