Pionus parrots are a genus of medium-sized parrots, Pionus, native to Mexico and Central and South America. They are characterised by a stocky body, short tail, and distinctive red undertail coverts. Pionus parrots are generally regarded as calmer and quieter than many other similarly sized parrots, making them well suited to apartment living. They are capable mimics of human speech, though less prolific than amazons or African greys.
