Albino medaka is a mutant form lacking melanin pigment, characterized by white-to-cream body color and red eyes (blood vessels visible through pigment-free irises). Their mystical appearance earns them enduring popularity. Being albino, they are UV-sensitive — strong direct sunlight must be avoided. Weaker eyesight than normal individuals means food should be distributed evenly across the water surface, and competition at feeding time should be minimized. Avoid keeping with aggressive fish; albino x albino or peaceful variety communities are recommended. Albino x Albino crosses produce albino offspring at higher rates, though hatch and survival rates may be lower than normal medaka.
