Raindrop Peperomia

Pilea peperomioides, the Chinese money plant or UFO plant, is a perennial in the family Urticaceae, native to Yunnan province in southern China. Its rounded, pancake-like, bright green leaves held on slender central stems give it an unmistakable and charming appearance. Compact (typically 15–30 cm), it is well suited for desk or shelf display. Introduced to Europe by a Norwegian missionary in the 1970s, it spread through informal sharing before being formally described botanically — hence its alternative name 'friendship plant'. The plant readily produces offsets at the base, facilitating easy propagation and the tradition of sharing pups with friends. It prefers bright indirect light; direct sunlight can cause yellowing. Water moderately, allowing the soil to dry between waterings to prevent root rot.
