Types and Selection of Heating Equipment

• Panel heater: Placed under the enclosure floor to warm from below. Ideal for ground-dwelling species like leopard geckos
• Ceramic heat panel (Dantotsu): Mounted on top of the enclosure for far-infrared heating. Warms the entire space
• Ceramic heater: Heats without producing light. Suitable for nocturnal species
• Basking bulb: Used for diurnal species' basking spots

Creating Temperature Gradients

Reptile enclosures need hot spot and cool spot temperature gradients.

• Hot spot: 28–35°C depending on species
• Cool spot: Approximately 24–26°C
• Nighttime: Lower overall temperature by 2–3°C for more natural management

Thermostats Are Essential

• Always control heating equipment with a thermostat. Prevents overheating accidents
• Install digital thermometers at both hot and cool spots for monitoring
• Calibrate thermometers regularly to maintain accuracy

Power Outage Emergency Measures

• Place disposable hand warmers wrapped in towels against the outside of the enclosure
• Cover the enclosure with blankets or foam board for insulation
• Also watch for winter humidity drops. Maintain 40–60% humidity with misting and wet hides
