Papa Meilland

Created by Alain Meilland (France) in 1963 and dedicated to his grandfather, 'Papa Meilland' is revered as one of the finest red roses ever produced, inducted into the World Rose Hall of Fame. Its velvety crimson blooms, while not densely petalled, carry a rich, full Damask fragrance of extraordinary intensity — widely cited as among the best of all roses. The combination of deep color and powerful scent makes every flower an event. Disease resistance is moderate, and heat can reduce color quality in midsummer. Morning sun with afternoon shelter is ideal to preserve the bloom's depth and fragrance. Hard winter pruning, retaining just 3–5 strong canes, is recommended to ensure high-quality flowering in spring.
