Medaka with elongated fins called swallow trait. Gracefully flowing fins reminiscent of phoenix feathers.
Phoenix medaka is a long-finned improved variety with the swallow-tail trait, featuring elongated dorsal, caudal, and pectoral fins that flow gracefully like phoenix feathers. The fin elongation is highly heritable, and the dancing movement of the long fins is best appreciated in side-view tanks. Gentle water flow is essential — strong currents damage the delicate fins, so sponge filters are recommended. Water quality maintenance is critical to prevent fin rot (columnaris disease). Fin-long x fin-long crosses increase the proportion of long-finned offspring. Various body colors exist including white, orange, and black.
