Alocasia Zebrina

Alocasia zebrina is a perennial in the family Araceae, native to the Philippines. It is prized for the striking contrast between its large, arrow-shaped leaves and its distinctive zebra-patterned petioles, which feature yellow and dark purple-black banding reminiscent of a zebra's stripes. Mature leaves can reach 60–90 cm in length. It thrives in bright indirect light; direct sunlight causes leaf scorch. Watering should be moderate — allow the soil surface to dry before watering again, as overwatering leads to root and corm rot; well-draining soil is essential. High humidity is preferred; dry conditions encourage spider mite infestations, so misting is beneficial. Growth slows in winter, and the rhizome may enter a period of dormancy. Its boldly patterned stems make it a distinctive focal point in contemporary interiors.
