A mushroom coral relative with cute colorful bubble-like tentacles. Extremely collectible.
Ricordea yuma (family Ricordeidae, order Corallimorpharia) is a mushroom anemone inhabiting shallow Indo-Pacific reefs. Single disc-shaped polyps grow 5–15 cm across, their surface covered with densely packed vesicle-tipped tentacles. The color palette is extraordinary—blue, green, orange, purple, and pink fluorescence makes high-grade specimens among the most visually striking invertebrates available to reef hobbyists, particularly the multicolored forms marketed as 'Hawaiian Ricordea.' Care is beginner-friendly: moderate lighting (80–200 PAR) and gentle to moderate flow are sufficient, with stable water (24–27°C, KH 8–10) completing the requirements. New arrivals should be acclimated to light gradually. Propagation by bisection is reliable and results in two viable specimens. Ricordea yuma is notably hardier than its Caribbean relative R. florida.
