Hygrophila pinnatifida
A stem plant with deeply cut unique leaves. Has unusual ability to attach to rocks and driftwood.
Hygrophila pinnatifida is an aquatic plant in the family Acanthaceae, native to India, distinguished as a rare stem plant that combines deeply pinnate lobed leaves with the ability to attach to driftwood and rocks. The submerged leaf surface is green to brownish, while the underside displays purple to reddish-brown coloration, creating rich color contrast that adds complexity to aquascape layouts. Its attachment ability is exploited by placing it as a midground accent or to create the impression of plants growing along driftwood. Active growth and vivid leaf contrast are achieved with medium to strong lighting and CO2 addition. Relatively easy to grow and hardy, it propagates by replanting trimmed cuttings. Known affectionately by aquarists as 'Pinnatifida,' it is a popular choice frequently featured in Nature Aquarium compositions.
