Netherland Dwarf Rabbit

The Netherland Dwarf is one of the smallest domestic rabbit breeds, developed in the Netherlands in the early 20th century through crosses between wild rabbits and small Polish rabbits. Adults typically weigh 0.9–1.3 kg and measure 25–30 cm in length. Their compact, rounded bodies, short ears, and large eyes give them a distinctly juvenile appearance that has made them one of the most popular pet rabbit breeds worldwide. More than 80 color varieties are recognized. Despite their small size, Netherland Dwarfs are energetic and curious, requiring daily free-roaming exercise outside their cage. A cage of at least 60 cm width is recommended, with unlimited timothy hay, limited pellets, and fresh leafy greens. They are prone to malocclusion, gastrointestinal stasis, and uterine disorders in females. Lifespan is 8–12 years.
