Staurogyne Repens

Staurogyne repens is a compact stem plant in the family Acanthaceae, native to the Xingu River region of Brazil. Its densely packed, small bright-yellow-green leaves and naturally low, creeping growth habit make it ideal for foreground and lower midground planting. Under high illumination the plant spreads horizontally with minimal upward growth; CO2 injection substantially improves both growth rate and foliage density, although the plant survives without supplementation at a reduced pace. Nutrient-rich aquasoil and root-tab fertilization produce the most vigorous growth. Propagation is simple: cut stems replanted in the substrate establish readily. More forgiving than Glossostigma or Hemianthus callitrichoides, it offers an accessible path to achieving a lush, bushy foreground-midground transition. Occasionally referred to as 'Mini S' in the trade due to superficial resemblance to certain Hygrophila species.
