Agave oteroi
Wild population considered the base species of Titanota. Wild power from harsh Mexican habitat. Recently reclassified.
Agave oteroi is a species closely related to Agave titanota, native to limestone rock outcrops in Oaxaca, Mexico, where it endures extreme drought and intense sunlight. Its broad, blue-gray leaves bear stout cream to white teeth along the margins, giving it a similarly bold appearance to titanota. Mature rosettes typically reach 40–60 cm in diameter, forming a compact, symmetrical shape. Growth is slow, and the plant requires full sun year-round—strong LED supplemental lighting is necessary for indoor culture. Water only after the soil has completely dried out, and reduce watering to near-drought conditions during winter. A highly porous, well-draining soil mix is essential to prevent root rot. Its taxonomic relationship to titanota remains a subject of collector debate, and its rarity makes it a prized specimen among agave enthusiasts.
