Agave Difformis

Agave difformis is a small to medium species native to Hidalgo, Querétaro, and San Luis Potosí in Mexico. Its narrow, relatively soft leaves have small marginal teeth, making it one of the safer agaves to handle. The plant forms a compact rosette and is a prolific offsetter, readily developing into attractive clusters over time. Mature rosettes reach 20–40 cm tall and 30–50 cm wide. Growth rate is moderate. More shade-tolerant than most agaves, it performs reasonably well in bright indirect light and is thus more suitable for indoor culture than many of its relatives. Water when the soil dries; maintain good drainage and avoid overwatering. Cold hardiness is around 5°C—protect from frost. The clustered habit creates a visually appealing mass display, and the abundance of offsets makes propagation straightforward. Its compact size, relative ease of cultivation, and ready availability make it a practical and charming entry point for those beginning to explore agave growing.
